McAllen Police Chief Provides Update Following Deadly Shooting Near McAllen Airport

McALLEN, Texas — The McAllen Police Department has confirmed that the suspect involved in an early morning shooting incident near the McAllen International Airport is dead. The incident occurred Monday around 6 a.m. at the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Annex, located at 2301 S. Main Street.
In a statement provided by McAllen Police spokesperson Sgt. John Saenz, the shooting led to multiple injuries, although the extent and number of those injured have not been disclosed. Authorities from various agencies quickly responded to the scene, resulting in heightened security and widespread travel disruptions.
As a result of the incident, all flights at McAllen International Airport have been delayed, and access to the airport has been restricted until further notice. The City of McAllen issued a news release urging the public to avoid the area as investigations continue.
Additionally, Wichita Avenue from 10th Street to Bicentennial Boulevard has been closed to traffic while police conduct their investigation.
Despite the heavy law enforcement presence, Sgt. Saenz emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public at this time.
