McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos Issues Disaster Declaration Following Severe Rainstorm

In response to the severe storm that impacted the City of McAllen, Mayor Javier Villalobos has officially issued a disaster declaration to help secure state and federal resources for recovery efforts. The declaration is a critical step in ensuring that residents, businesses, and the City of McAllen receive much-needed assistance for damages and rebuilding efforts.
“This storm has caused significant challenges for our community, and we are committed to doing everything possible to help McAllen recover,” said Mayor Villalobos. “By issuing this disaster declaration, we are taking the necessary steps to access state and federal funding that will provide relief for our residents and businesses and help the City of McAllen restore infrastructure as quickly as possible.”
The City of McAllen’s first responders, law enforcement, and Public Works, Traffic, and other emergency crews, as well as Emergency Management staff have been working around the clock to assess damage, clear debris, repair infrastructure, and restore essential services. Their efforts have been instrumental in ensuring public safety and keeping McAllen moving forward in the aftermath of the storm.
Residents and business owners who have experienced property damage are urged to report their losses through the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) iSTAT Portal at https://damage.tdem.texas.gov or on the City of McAllen website at www.mcallen.net. Using this system allows for self-reporting of damages and assists the City of McAllen and the State of Texas in their efforts to obtain any potential recovery assistance. Residents are encouraged to document any damage and repairs with photographs, and to keep any receipts, should financial relief become available. Documenting these damages will play a crucial role in determining the level of assistance available from state and federal agencies.
As recovery efforts continue, the City of McAllen encourages the community to stay informed by following official city channels for updates.
