Maya Hawke joins the ‘Hunger Games’ prequel

Los Angeles (USA), (EFE) – “Stranger Things” star Maya Hawke will appear in the prequel to “Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” Lionsgate’s adaptation of the legendary saga written by Suzanne Collins.
Hawke will take on the role of Wiress, a former Hunger Games champion turned District 12 mentor, Deadline reported Wednesday.
The American actress, daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, joins the cast led by Joseph Zada (Haymitch Abernathy) and Whitney Peak (Lenore Dove Baird), scheduled for release in November 2026.
This new installment of “The Hunger Games,” like the previous one, will go back in time to delve into the dystopian world of Panem 24 years before the beginning of the first book in the saga, whose film adaptation starred Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss) and Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark).
The novel begins on the morning of the announcement of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. Haymitch Abernathy, known for being Katniss and Peeta’s mentor when they are chosen to represent District 12 in the 74th and 75th Hunger Games, competed there.
The prequel, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” was released in November 2023 and grossed $337 million at the international box office, according to data published by The Hollywood Reporter. It was the first installment in the series without Lawrence and Hutcherson.
