Washington, DC – This week was filled with fresh examples of the cruelty, chaos, and lack of accountability inherent to this administration’s mass deportation agenda. From U.S. citizens and long-settled immigrants being ensnared to unnecessary and deliberate violence being inflicted, we are seeing volumes of evidence of an enforcement campaign operating with little oversight or accountability and maximizing cruelty and inhumanity. The examples documented below directly contradicts Kristi Noem’s claims that U.S. Citizens are not being arrested or detained in regards to the growing ICE enforcement across the country.
According to Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice:
“Another week, another set of abuses inflicted on American citizens and long-settled immigrants. The violence has become all too commonplace in American communities. Our friends, neighbors and co-workers are deliberately targeted and brutalized under the banner of enforcement with no accountability and no restraint. When a government normalizes fear and cruelty, everyone is at risk, no one is safe. In the weeks ahead, the administration has signaled even more aggression without limits, eroding the foundation of our democracy. It does not have to be this way.”
See below examples from this week of how Trump’s mass deportation is harming communities:
● Mom in Salt Lake Airport Pulled From Family in Heartbreaking Video, as reported by The Salt Lake Tribune
● A Harrisburg teen post video of mothers brutal arrest by ICE, as reported by Augusta Free Press
● Border Patrol agents drag 67-year-old U.S. citizen man from car causing ‘broken ribs’ in front of his children, as reported by The Independent
● “ICE shoots 24-year-old citizen in Ontario, CA”, as reported by LA Taco
● Watch a recent virtual event convened by America’s Voice on this administration’s mass deportation crusade impacting individuals’ everyday lives. This event featured speakers that include Illinois State Rep. Hoan Huynh who recently had federal agents surround his car at gunpoint while monitoring the site of a potential immigration raid; Matt Martin, a Chicago Alderman whose district includes Ruben Torres Maldonado, the Illinois dad who was detained shortly after his 16-year-old daughter’s chemotherapy; and Jenni Rivera from North Carolina, whose husband chose to self-exile after 30 years in the country rather than risk detention.
