Latinos Redefine Prosperity

State of Hispanic Wealth Report – Breaking Stereotypes and Building Wealth

San Diego- The Hispanic Wealth Project™ (HWP) and The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP®) unveiled the annual State of Hispanic Wealth Report (SHWR). The 2025 edition presents an in-depth exploration of how Latino families are building generational wealth, highlighting powerful personal stories and new programmatic initiatives shaping Latino prosperity in the United States.

This year’s report builds on past reports to deliver a closer look at Latino financial practices through 24 in-depth interviews and a national investment property survey in partnership with Airbnb. Findings reveal both the deep aspirations and persistent challenges shaping Latino financial decisions, and outline the path forward to accelerate Hispanic wealth growth.

Key Themes in 2025 State of Hispanic Wealth Report:

  • Lack of formal financial education: Most Latinos learn about money by navigating real life, guided by family examples, early responsibility, and the challenges of work and community. These experiences cultivate resilience and deep commitment to loved ones.

  • Wealth as a generational priority: Latino families aspire to plan ahead and provide for future generations. Younger Latinos are increasingly using digital tools and engaging openly to boost their financial knowledge.

  • Business ownership and homeownership remain central: Owning a home stands out as the primary milestone for financial stability and legacy, with entrepreneurship also highly valued but too often limited by a lack of access to capital.

  • Retirement and estate planning remain difficult: Although recognized as important, many Latinos view retirement and estate planning as out of reach due to barriers such as low wages, limited employer benefits, and a lack of financial knowledge.

The SHWR also highlights a growing trend among Latino families: investment property ownership and hosting through platforms like Airbnb. Over 60% of surveyed respondents are interested in short-term rental income, viewing it as a pivotal wealth-building strategy to support daily expenses and fund future dreams. “In today’s uncertain economic landscape, finding new ways to earn extra income is a major benefit,” said Jordi Torres Mallol, Regional Director North America & Latin America in Airbnb. “It’s actually what led to Airbnb’s creation in the first place – in the last great recession, our founders created this model as a way to pay their rent. But our view is that supplemental income should be the floor, not the ceiling, of becoming an Airbnb host. Hosting is a critical way to generate money that can be reinvested – and we want that opportunity to be available to as many people as possible.”

Sara Rodriguez, Chairperson of HWP adds, “The State of Hispanic Wealth Report demonstrates that with the Nation’s highest workforce participation, 1.2 million Latino millionaire households, and surging educational attainment, Hispanic families are leading America’s wealth transformation.”

In response to both the progress and persistent hurdles, the Hispanic Wealth Project is launching the High Net Worth Bootcamp (HNWB) in 2026. This 10-week, biannual program will deliver immersive workshops and mentoring to Latino high-net-worth individuals and business owners, equipping them with strategies for investing, asset protection, wealth transfer, and access to leading networks and capital.
