Julissa Martinez Hired as Athletics Video Production Coordinator
RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday the hiring of Julissa Martinez as the athletics video production coordinator.
Martinez, a UTRGV alum, returns to UTRGV Athletics after spending three years with the department in a variety of roles. For the past two years, Martinez has worked part-time as the assistant athletics video production coordinator. In this role, she has assisted UTRGV in their live broadcasts of baseball, volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball and soccer. She has also contributed to content creation for UTRGV’s various social media accounts and led the entire production of V60, a weekly production from UTRGV Athletics.
Prior to working part-time with UTRGV, Martinez spent the 2021-22 school year as the student experience intern for broadcast production. In this role, she assisted in live broadcasts, created sport packages, and gained experience as producer, technical director, graphics operator, replay operator, and camera operator.
“We were lucky to have Julissa be one of our first to come through the UTRGV Student Experience Internship Program,” assistant director for athletics video production Mikey Rodriguez said. “Her ability to step into any role and do it well is such a rare find in a complicated field. She will be an integral part of our team moving forward and I’m excited to achieve bigger and better things with her on board.”
In 2023, Martinez worked as the director of digital media production for Parachute RGV. In this role, she created content for the marketing agency and assisted in all aspects of their video production.
“I am grateful for the opportunity that UTRGV Athletics has given me,” Martinez said. “This is a significant milestone in my career. From my start as an intern, I have gained knowledge and experience with athletics, and I would like to thank my supervisors for their guidance and support in shaping my professional journey. I look forward to growing with UTRGV Athletics and contributing even more to the department’s success.”
Martinez also spent time freelancing various sporting events across the valley. Working for the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), Martinez directed the 2022 WAC Volleyball Tournament and assisted with the 2024 WAC Tennis Championships. Martinez also spent time as a replay operator for the venue now known as Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium and as a camera operator at Bert Ogden Arena.
Martinez graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication Studies from UTRGV in December 2022 and graduated with her Associate of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from South Texas College in May 2020.
