Hidalgo County Judge joins Regional Leaders in efforts to protect Air Service to Mexico City
Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez is joining regional leaders in calling on the U.S. Department of Transportation to protect vital air connections between South Texas and Mexico City.
The air service between McAllen International Airport and Mexico City plays an essential role in the economic strength and cross-border connectivity of the Rio Grande Valley. Any disruption to these flights will have an immediate impact on the RGV economy.
“This route is much more than a transportation link. It’s a vital connection for families, businesses, and commerce across our binational region,” said Cortez. “A disruption to these routes doesn’t just affect McAllen; it impacts the entire Rio Grande Valley and the many small businesses that depend on tourism, trade, and travel from Mexico.”
Judge Cortez urges state officials and the RGV Delegation to engage with federal officials to address the issue.
“Our state and congressional leaders understand the importance of air service to our border region,” Cortez said. “We appreciate their advocacy in working with federal agencies to find solutions that preserve air connectivity while balancing national transportation priorities.”
