Hidalgo County DA launches 10th Annual Labor Day “No Refusal” Campaign

HIDALGO COUNTY – In an ongoing effort to keep our roadways safe over the Labor Day weekend, Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios, in partnership with local law enforcement, judges, and medical professionals, will launch the 10th Annual Labor Day “No Refusal” Initiative.
The campaign begins at 12:00 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2025, and will continue through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 2025.
During this period, drivers suspected of driving while intoxicated (DWI) who refuse to submit to a breath or blood alcohol test will be subject to a search warrant for a mandatory blood draw.
“Labor Day is a time to celebrate with family and friends, but it is also one of the deadliest weekends on Texas roadways due to impaired driving,” said Palacios. “This campaign is about saving lives. We are proud to stand with our law enforcement partners to ensure that those who choose to drink and drive are held accountable.”
The District Attorney’s Office extends its sincere appreciation to all participating agencies and partners, including municipal court judges, attorney magistrates, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, local police departments, school district police, constable offices, and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Together, we remain committed to promoting public safety and preventing impaired driving.
Law enforcement officials encourage all residents and visitors to plan ahead:
- Use a designated driver
- Utilize rideshare or taxi services
- Consider staying overnight if necessary
