Hidalgo County celebrates Petra Pardo Salinas as she marks her 100th Birthday
Edinburg, TX—On February 6, 2024, Commissioner Ellie Torres of Hidalgo County Precinct 4, along with the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court, came together to celebrate the remarkable life of Petra Pardo Salinas as she reached her 100th birthday. A proclamation was presented in court, issued by the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court, acknowledging and celebrating the extraordinary journey of Petra Pardo Salinas, a cherished member of our community.
Throughout her century-long life, Petra Pardo Salinas has embodied the values of love, resilience, and dedication. Born on January 31, 1924, in Edinburg, Texas, to Encarnacion Pardo, Sr. and Catalina Beltran Pardo, Petra has served as a source of strength and inspiration to her family and friends. Married to Lorenzo Salinas, Jr., Petra is the proud parent of three children: Lorenzo Salinas Jr., Norma Salinas Rodriguez, and Ricardo Salinas. Additionally, she is blessed with 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
As an inaugural resident of the historic El Tule community, Petra has witnessed the evolution of our society firsthand. Throughout the past century, she has seen and experienced pivotal historical events, including the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, World War II, the Civil Rights Movement, and the technological revolution.
Petra Pardo Salinas has not only witnessed history but has actively participated in shaping it. Her resilience and determination during challenging times, including the recent COVID-19 pandemic, serve as a testament to her strength of character.
Therefore, on this auspicious occasion, the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court proudly proclaimed its honor and congratulated Petra Pardo Salinas. Accepting her proclamation on her behalf were her children, sister and several family members.
