Groundbreaking Ceremony for Auburn Avenue Widening Project
The City of McAllen, in partnership with Ellie Torres—Hidalgo County Commissioner Pct. 4—and the Texas Department of Transportation, has officially broken ground on the much-anticipated widening of FM 676 (Auburn Avenue). This significant infrastructure project aims to enhance traffic flow and safety by expanding the road to four lanes between Ware Road and Taylor Road.
The project will be executed in carefully planned phases to minimize disruption and ensure steady progress. Phase 1, scheduled for completion by December 2024, will see the widening of the road, after which FM 676 will reopen to traffic while work continues on improving drainage systems. The entire project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026.
This initiative is a testament to the City of McAllen’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. The widened FM 676 will not only alleviate congestion but also support the growing needs of the community.
We look forward to the positive impact this project will have on McAllen and the surrounding areas. Thank you to our partners and all involved for their dedication to making this project a reality. Stay tuned for more updates as construction progresses!
