Fraudulent Emails Targeting Developers, Permit Applicants

The City of McAllen is warning developers, contractors, business owners, and residents involved in the development process, including those who have applied for rezonings or building permits, to be on alert for fraudulent emails impersonating City of McAllen Development Services staff and officials.

These scam emails claim to be from City of McAllen personnel or officials and request payments or deposits to move projects forward. In some cases, they may include links or attachments that could compromise personal or financial information.

The City of McAllen does not send invoices via email and will never ask for deposits or payments through email communication.

In response to a suspicious email should:

  • Do NOT click on any links or open any attachments.
  • Do NOT provide any personal or financial information.
  • Do REPORT the email as a scam or phishing attempt to the email provider.

For questions or to verify communication from the City of McAllen Development Services departments, please call (956) 681-1250.

Help stop scammers by staying vigilant and spreading the word.
