Erik Anderson as Athletics Facilities and Equipment Coordinator
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday the hiring of Erik Anderson as athletics facilities and equipment coordinator.
Anderson comes to UTRGV with two years of operations experience, most recently working as an operations intern with the Tri-City Chili Peppers of the Coastal Plain League this past season. In this role, Anderson managed the operations team throughout the season, trained volunteers, and performed stadium maintenance to comply with active regulations.
“I am very excited to welcome Erik to UTRGV,” senior associate athletic director for operations John Evans said. “Erik brings facility, event and game operations experience from his time at James Madison University (JMU) and the Tri-City Chili Peppers collegiate summer league team. Erik will play a key role managing equipment orders, deliveries and inventory. His experience at JMU during their successful transition to the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) will be extremely valuable as we kick off our first football season in 2025.”
Prior to working with the Tri-City Chili Peppers, Anderson worked as an athletic facilities assistant at JMU where he maintained Sentara Park, home of JMU men’s and women’s soccer, women’s track & field/cross country, and women’s lacrosse, during the 2023-24 school year. He also assisted with the setup and teardown of Sentara Park and Bridgeforth Stadium, home of JMU football, and completed any facilities repairs as necessary.
“I’m very grateful to have this opportunity to join UTRGV in my new role,” Anderson said. “I’m looking forward to my contribution to this rapidly growing environment. I’d like to thank everyone in the events and facilities department for helping me transition to the Valley!”
From June to August 2023, Anderson worked as a field manager for Perfect Game USA where he would create player profiles containing game-by-game statistics, acted as the point of contact for umpires and coaches, and ensured the fields were properly maintained.
From August to December 2022, Anderson worked as an event management practicum for JMU Athletics where he assisted in setup and facilitating of athletic and special events, assisted with football and soccer operations, and supervised special events.
Anderson graduated from JMU with his Bachelor of Science in Sport & Recreation Management with a Minor in General Business in August 2024. Anderson is currently working on a Master of Science in Sport Administration from Arkansas State.
