Dr. Arturo Rodriguez, One Of Texas’ Outstanding Nurses
The City of Brownsville proudly announces that its very own, Arturo Rodriguez, DNP, MPH, CPM, LSI Certified Coach, Director of Public Health and Wellness, has been honored as one of the 25 Outstanding Texas Nurses for 2024 by the Texas Nurses Association. This prestigious accolade is awarded annually to nurses who demonstrate exceptional commitment to health, wellness, and community service.
Dr. Rodriguez’s peers, community members, and colleagues nominated him for his extraordinary leadership and dedication to public health. His significant contributions, especially during the challenging post-COVID-19 era, include pioneering initiatives such as the YSEALI Exchange program and leading the Taskforce of Border Health Officials for Texas. These efforts have substantially improved local health systems and addressed unique health challenges within the community.
“I am deeply honored by this recognition and thankful for the support of my colleagues and the community,” said Dr. Rodriguez. “I remain committed to enhancing the health and well-being of all our residents and will continue to advocate for innovative and effective healthcare solutions for our community.”

In recognition of his efforts, the Texas Nursing Association stated, “Dr. Arturo Rodriguez is a distinguished nursing leader whose proactive measures and innovative approach significantly contribute to public health and wellness. His leadership in programs like the YSEALI Exchange and the Taskforce of Border Health Officials for Texas exemplifies his dedication to collaboration and addressing the unique challenges faced by our communities.”
Adding to his achievements, Dr. Rodriguez has also been instrumental in establishing a modular laboratory for disease testing and the BTX Health Center, which serves city employees, enhancing workplace wellness and community health.
Dr. Rodriguez will be formally recognized at the Texas Nurses Association’s Annual Conference in San Antonio, scheduled from May 31 to June 1, 2024.
