DHR Health Brings Leading Minds for 15th Annual International Behavioral Medicine Conference

Edinburg, Texas: DHR Health will host its 15th Annual International Behavioral Medicine Conference on November 21 and 22, 2025, at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance, located at 118 Paseo del Prado. This educational event invites health care professionals—including physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, social workers, licensed professional counselors, licensed marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and mental health specialists—to participate for a small registration fee. First responders, law enforcement personnel, physician residents, and medical and nursing students are welcome to attend free of charge. Pre-registration is highly encouraged.
The two-day conference aims to enhance understanding of complex mental health issues by connecting attendees with leading experts in psychiatry and behavioral medicine. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, more than one in five adults in the U.S. lives with a mental illness. These statistics are eye-opening and emphasize the importance of ongoing education and collaboration among behavioral health professionals. Participants will gain access to the latest research, evidence-based practices, and practical resources that promote improved mental health outcomes in the community.
Among this year’s distinguished guest speakers is Dr. Phillip Resnick, world-renowned forensic psychiatrist and professor of psychiatry at Case School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. Over the course of his career, Resnick has consulted on several nationally recognized criminal cases, including those involving Jeffrey Dahmer, Susan Smith, Timothy McVeigh, Andrea Yates, Scott Peterson, Casey Anthony, Theodore Kaczynski, and James Holmes. His session will focus on addressing gun violence and providing practical strategies for clinicians.
The conference will also feature a diverse lineup of presentations addressing key topics in behavioral medicine, including the treatment of paraphilic disorder, insomnia, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and more. Specialized breakout sessions in forensic psychiatry, pharmacotherapy, bipolar disorders, pediatrics, and geriatrics will allow participants to explore focused areas of interest and gain practical, evidence-based insights.
The annual event is spearheaded by Dr. Jose E. Igoa, board-certified psychiatrist and Medical Director of the DHR Health Behavioral Hospital, who remains dedicated to advancing education in mental health and fostering collaboration between health care providers, law enforcement, and the community.
“Mental health challenges affect every aspect of our society,” said Igoa. “By coming together to share knowledge and expertise, we can strengthen our understanding and better serve the patients and families who depend on us.” Igoa added that he strongly encourages all professionals in the mental health field to attend and continue building on their knowledge and practice.
