Cyber Security Week

Cyber Security Week

The City of Brownsville is hosting a week-long of informational seminars the week of March 26 through March 28 during Cyber Security Week.

Cyber Security Week will include Lunch and Learn Panel Discussions which will provide the public with opportunities to learn what the City of Brownsville is doing to keep its cyberware safe and how businesses can ensure their emails are secure.

“The main purpose of it is is to bring in the local businesses and, the schools especially, we want to pretty much talk about what the city is doing for the citizens and how we are protecting the city’s customers,” said Jorge Cardenas, director, of Information Technology, for the City of Brownsville.

The city partners with many schools within the city and it wants to share what the city is doing to protect its information technology.

“That is why we brought CrowdStrike to manage our Cyber Security program and enforce our cyber security defense,” Cardenas said.

Those attending the Lunch and Learn seminars will receive information on what to look out for, the vulnerabilities every computer has, and the vulnerabilities your servers may have.

In addition, people attending will find out what happens when their email gets compromised.

“We want to share everything that is happening from vulnerabilities, to how to create a program to patch those vulnerabilities to how to create an incident response plan to mitigate risk on cyber security,” Cardenas said.

Also during Cyber Security Week will be the grand opening of the Lit Fiber-BTX Demo Center. Lit Fiber BTX is Brownsville’s newest internet service provider.

“This is a place where residents can come in they can talk to someone, they can discuss what is the best service they can sign up for,” said Lindsay Whitehurst, chief marketing officer for Lit Fiber.

Cyber Security Week will be held March 26 through March 28 and is open to the community.
