City of McAllen Launches Citywide Mosquito Spraying Efforts Following Recent Rain

In response to the recent heavy rainfall, the City of McAllen has initiated proactive vector control measures to reduce mosquito populations and minimize the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses.
City crews began larvicide efforts and spraying process on Friday, treating standing water in right-of-way areas. Over the weekend, officers continued targeted treatments in specific locations. Today, all vector control officers are actively larviciding standing water in their assigned zones to prevent mosquito breeding.

- Wednesday, April 2: 10:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.
Residents can also take steps to help control mosquito populations by following these mosquito prevention tips:

- Use insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus when outdoors.
- Wear long sleeves and pants during peak mosquito activity hours (dusk and dawn).
- Keep doors and windows closed or use screens to prevent mosquitoes from entering homes.
City sprayers are currently being prepped and loaded for the scheduled vector mitigation efforts.
