City of McAllen Honors Commissioner Everardo Villarreal with Special Proclamation

McAllen, Texas—The City of McAllen proudly issued a special proclamation on February 12, 2024, honoring Commissioner Everardo “Ever” Villarreal for his outstanding contributions to the community. The proclamation officially declared February 12 as Commissioner Everardo “Ever” Villarreal Day.

Representing Hidalgo County Precinct 3, Commissioner Villarreal played a vital part in addressing critical challenges faced by the city, particularly in response to immigration influx and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The proclamation recognizes Commissioner Villarreal’s significant contribution in enabling Anzalduas Park to be utilized for temporarily accommodating immigrants who tested positive for COVID-19. Since August 2021, the site has been pivotal, accommodating a multitude of regional, state, and federal officials along with elected representatives and dignitaries from various parts of the world.

Working together with Hidalgo County Health and Human Services, Emergency Management, Sheriff’s Office, and Precinct 3’s Parks & Rec Departments, Commissioner Villarreal proficiently ensured the processing of immigrants, which benefits both McAllen and Hidalgo County.

The Anzalduas Park facility has witnessed the passage of over 230,000 immigrants, with over 64,000 individuals processed through its gates. This achievement highlights Commissioner Villarreal’s effective leadership in managing the regional immigration response.

On behalf of the City Commission, Mayor Javier Villalobos expressed gratitude to Commissioner Villarreal and his team for their devoted support and commitment to the community’s needs.

The City of McAllen celebrates Commissioner Everardo “Ever” Villarreal’s exemplary dedication and service, and is proud to designate February 12, 2024 as “Hidalgo County Precinct 3 Commissioner Everardo ‘Ever’ Villarreal Day.”
