City of Hidalgo Police Department Approved as Law Enforcement Training Academy by TCOLE
HIDALGO, TEXAS– The City of Hidalgo is proud to announce that the Hidalgo Police Department has been approved as an academy training provider by the state of Texas by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). This certification allows the department to conduct its training for recruits, ensuring they meet the highest standards of law enforcement professionalism and competence. TCOLE establishes and enforces certification standards and regulates all law enforcement training within the state of Texas. As an accredited law enforcement training provider, the Hidalgo Police Department LEA will now be able to create training programs that will fulfill Texas officers’ annual mandated training requirements as well as apply toward general course credits. This will provide another opportunity for law enforcement officers in Texas to attain the 40 hours of required continuing education credits they must complete each year to maintain their peace officer certification.
“We are excited to have been selected by the state (TCOLE) to have a independent program in Hidalgo to provide opportunities for those individuals who desire to pursue a career in law enforcement.” said Julian J. Gonzalez, Hidalgo City Manager. “We are fortunate to have the support of our Mayor and City Council who understand the importance of this accomplishment. I especially want to express our gratitude to Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, for all of his help and support in assuring that our application process met all the needed requirements and criteria during this process.”
“I commend Mayor Coronado, the members of the City Council, City Manager Julian J. Gonzalez, and Chief of Police Romeo Rodriguez for successfully obtaining approval from TCOLE to establish a Law Enforcement Training Academy in the City of Hidalgo.” said Senator “Chuy” Hinojosa. “With the continued growth in the Rio Grande Valley, it is important to have training academies close to home for the men and women who want to work in law enforcement. I was pleased to support their application and look forward to assisting in any way I can to support the academy and the law enforcement officers who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.”
“We are thrilled to receive this approval from TCOLE,” said Romeo Rodriguez, Chief of Police for the City of Hidalgo Police Department. “This accreditation demonstrates our commitment to providing the highest quality training to our officers, ensuring they are well-prepared to serve and protect our community.”
The Hidalgo Police Department LEA training program will cover a wide range of topics. The department’s experienced instructors will provide hands-on training and real-world scenarios to prepare recruits for the challenges they may face in the field. In addition to providing training for its own recruits, the City of Hidalgo Police Department LEA plans to offer its training program to other law enforcement agencies in the region.
