Brownsville Residents Urged To Step Up Water Conservation Efforts

Brownsville Residents Urged To Step Up Water Conservation Efforts

As the water levels in the Amistad and Falcon reservoirs continue to plummet, Brownsville residents are being called upon to intensify their efforts in conserving water. The combined levels of the two reservoirs have dwindled to a concerning 21.4 percent, down from 22.2 percent recorded in early April, prompting authorities to reinforce water-saving measures.

Brownsville remains under Stage 2 water restrictions, signaling the critical need for residents to be vigilant about their water usage habits. Odee Leal, the director of emergency management and homeland security for the City of Brownsville, emphasized the importance of individual contributions to conservation efforts.

“We ask residents to continue conserving water as much as possible. When they are washing dishes, don’t leave the water in the sink just running, let’s try to fill one sink with water to be able to rinse and not let the water run when we are showering, try and take quick showers as much as possible. Also keep in mind if we are going to be washing our vehicles there are only two days out of the week they can wash vehicles. Vehicle washing is allowed between midnight and 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM and midnight twice a week only,” Leal stated.

The Texas Drought Monitor has flagged Brownsville as experiencing abnormally dry conditions due to the prolonged absence of rainfall, exacerbating the strain on water resources. In light of this, residents are urged to adhere strictly to all restrictions outlined by the Brownsville Public Utilities Board to mitigate the impact of the water shortage.

For those seeking guidance on how to further reduce their water consumption, the city of Brownsville has made additional conservation tips available on its website at www.Brownsvilletx.gov and across its social media platforms. By adopting these measures and embracing a collective commitment to conservation, residents can play a pivotal role in safeguarding Brownsville’s precious water resources during this challenging period.
