Brownsville Firefighters Win Competition
In a display of skill and teamwork, Brownsville firefighters Carlos Garcia III and Jose Saldaña secured first place in the inaugural HCA Simulation Games, held as part of the Fifth Annual South Texas Comprehensive Healthcare Symposium on South Padre Island. Hosted by Trauma Regional Advisory Council Five, the symposium serves as a platform for local healthcare providers to engage in educational opportunities and networking.
This year’s symposium introduced a new dimension to the event with the addition of a simulation competition, pitting six teams from EMS agencies across the Rio Grande Valley against each other for friendly competition and the chance to claim a prestigious traveling trophy. The teams were tasked with providing care to a high-fidelity mannequin placed within state-of-the-art simulation ambulances provided by HCA Healthcare.
Amidst intense competition and rigorous evaluation, the team of Brownsville firefighters distinguished themselves with their exemplary performance and effective communication skills in managing simulated medical emergencies. Their ability to navigate complex scenarios and deliver quality care under pressure earned them the admiration of judges and fellow participants alike.
The victory of Garcia and Saldaña not only brings recognition to their department but also underscores the commitment of Brownsville’s emergency responders to excellence in healthcare delivery. The traveling trophy, along with the accompanying bragging rights, will find a temporary home in Brownsville, serving as a testament to the city’s dedication to professionalism and innovation in emergency services.
