Beilfuss Sets Program Record in Career Minutes Played as Women’s Soccer Falls at Northwestern State
Senior Libby Beilfuss set the program record for career minutes played as The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s soccer team fell 3-1 to the Northwestern State University Demons on Sunday at Lady Demon Soccer Complex.
Beilfuss now sits with 6,779 minutes played after playing a full 90 minutes on Sunday. Beilfuss passed Tuva Nilsen (2015-18) who played 6,748 minutes.
Northwestern State (10-6-2, 6-2-1 SLC) got the scoring started just minutes into the match as Taylor Spitzer scored in the 4th minute. About 15 minutes later, Emily Senatore extended the Northwestern State lead to 2-0 with a goal but UTRGV (7-5-5, 3-2-4 SLC) kept pushing through the first half.
The Vaqueros outshot the Demons 11 to 5 and 5 to 3 on goal. UTRGV had an opportunity to get on the board in the final minutes of the first half, but the Demons defense negated a couple of looks with their goalkeeper out of position.
UTRGV continued their pressure in the second half, and it was in the 61st minute when it got on the scoreboard. Senior Sam Maudsley sent a cross into the box and connected with sophomore Linnea Eld who tapped the ball into the net for her third goal of the season making it 2-1.
Northwestern State added a goal by Page Baumgartner in the 71st minute to put the match away.
UTRGV finished the match with 23 total shots and 11 on goal.
The Vaqueros will close out the regular season on Nov. 1 when they visit the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders.
