Avoid Posting Items On Utility Poles
The Brownsville Public Utilities Board (PUB) is reminding residents not to use utility poles for personal messaging, citing safety risks and local regulations.
BPUB crews are actively removing unauthorized items from utility poles across the city, including common postings like garage sale notices and lost pet posters. While these items may seem harmless, officials warn that the nails, staples, and tacks used to attach them can damage lineworkers’ protective equipment.
“Even minor punctures to protective gear can significantly increase the risk of severe injury or electrocution,” PUB officials stated.
In addition to safety concerns, attaching items to utility poles is prohibited under Brownsville’s municipal code. Residents are encouraged to find alternative ways to share notices and information that do not involve utility infrastructure.
By keeping poles clear, the community can help ensure the safety of lineworkers and maintain compliance with city regulations.
