America’s Voice Statement on the Arrest of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka

Washington, DC – Newark, NJ Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested outside the Delaney Hall ICE detention center while protesting its reopening alongside Members of Congress. In response, America’s Voice Executive Director Vanessa Cárdenas issued the following statement:

“The Trump administration and its ICE operation continue to go further and further in their abuse of power and authority in deeply alarming ways. No longer content with terrorizing everyday Americans and their families, they are expanding a sweeping dragnet that now reaches judges, courts, and duly elected officials. This is a deliberate use of government power to instill fear and suppress dissent. Americans across the political spectrum should be deeply troubled by what is unfolding before us.”
