BROWNSVILLE, TX The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Lower Valley residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Lower Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, November 8 at the Brownsville Event Center. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. and the Opening Ceremony starts at 9 a.m.

“This is such a meaningful time in our fight against Alzheimer’s,” said Valdemar Perez, Walk Manager, Lower Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s. “After losing several of my own family members to this disease and witnessing its impact on so many families, I’m filled with hope knowing that treatments are emerging that can change its course. I encourage everyone in our community to join us—start a team, walk with us, and help bring us closer to a future without Alzheimer’s”

On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. During the ceremony, walkers will carry flowers of various colors, each color representing their personal connection to the disease.

More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, nearly 12 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Texas, there are more than 459,300 people living with the disease and more than 1 million caregivers.
