Alianza Americas Condemns Violent ICE Crackdown and Anti-Immigrant Escalation in Los Angeles

Alianza Americas and our network of 58 Latin American and Caribbean immigrant-led organizations stand with organizations, activists, and community leaders in Los Angeles and denounce the atrocious and unnecessary use of force against peaceful protestors this weekend. After two weeks of escalating ICE enforcement including arrests in courthouses, and school and workplace raids, the community is speaking up to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Trump is using Los Angeles as a testing ground to advance his authoritarian agenda and divert attention from his own political troubles. The unilateral deployment of the National Guard and the Marines marks a dangerous escalation in his effort to use military force as a tool of control. Anyone who values state sovereignty, democratic principles, and First Amendment rights must denounce these actions and stand in solidarity with the organizations and community leaders courageously defending our communities across the country.
“What we witnessed in Los Angeles is the culmination of more than 40 years of anti-immigrant rhetoric shaping U.S. policy. A narrative that turns our communities into political pawns instead of recognizing the immense cultural, social, and economic contributions we bring. The gross actions taken this weekend by the Trump administration are only a preview of what could follow if the Senate approves his budget, handing the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense even more resources—on top of the $500 million already authorized by both parties in March—to escalate cruel enforcement. We cannot normalize these attacks, nor let them distract us from the parallel threats of cuts to Medicaid, nutrition assistance, and other essential programs,” stated Dulce Guzmán, Executive Director, Alianza Americas
“People across the country are speaking up for neighbors to say NO to arbitrary arrests and family separation. Over the weekend, our communities in Los Angeles heard with deep concern that our neighbors were being racially profiled and unjustly arrested by ICE. In response, dozens of angelinos peacefully showed up to support our neighbors. These very actions were met with unnecessary violence. We will continue to advocate for the due process rights of all who were arrested and detained by ICE’s unjust actions,” stated Luis Lopez Resendiz, Operations Director of Comunidades Indígenas en Liderazgo (CIELO) in Los Angeles, and Board member of Alianza Americas.
Let this be a wake-up call. This is not just about one city or protest. It’s about the fight ahead. We are running a long marathon toward justice, and we can only win if everyone gets involved. To our neighbors, allies, and leaders: now is the time to act. Show up for immigrant communities. Call your Senator. Accompany someone to their immigration appointment. Hold vigils. Get educated on your constitutional rights. Speak truth to power.
Love is our resistance. Community is our power.
