Fulfilling healthcare careers available

I’m so proud to be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) here in the RGV. It is a fulfilling feeling to take care of our local community and to know that my skills are in high demand locally.

I moved to the RGV without speaking English and without a high school diploma. I was determined to obtain my education, so I began taking English classes, obtained my GED, then went to a local community college. When I learned of the Dwyer Workforce Development (DWD) program, which provides free CNA training along with wraparound support like childcare, transportation, and job placement assistance, I jumped at the opportunity and am now employed as a CNA, taking care of local seniors and veterans.

DWD has helped more than 6,000 Texans achieve their dreams of working in healthcare!

DWD’s program is transforming lives like mine, adding much-need workers to the healthcare system and providing care for our community. I encourage others to explore this opportunity and am grateful for the support of our community and state leaders in helping expand DWD’s reach across Texas!

Sandra is an Alamo resident who is working as a Certified Nurse Assistant, providing care to the elderly and veteran population. Guided by determination, she returned to her CNA studies as an adult and sees her occupation as a reminder that it’s never too late to follow your dreams and start again.
