AT&T and Compudopt Partner with RGV Hispanic Chamber to Distribute Free Laptops to Local Families

McALLEN, Texas — The Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (RGVHCC), in partnership with AT&T and Compudopt, will host a Computer Giveaway Reception on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel in McAllen, where 100 laptops will be distributed to local families through 10 nonprofit organizations across the Valley.

This initiative, made possible through AT&T’s donation and Compudopt’s technology access program, aims to help bridge the digital divide by providing essential tools for families who do not currently have a working computer at home. Each laptop includes two years of free technical support.

The selected recipients were identified and referred by participating nonprofits in the Rio Grande Valley. Several local elected officials will also be present to commemorate the event and celebrate the community partnership.

“Technology opens doors to learning, career growth, and stronger communities,” said Cynthia Sakulenzki, President and CEO of the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “Through our partnership with AT&T, Compudopt, and local nonprofit organizations, we’re helping ensure Valley families have the digital tools and opportunities they need to succeed.”

This community effort reflects AT&T’s ongoing commitment to help close the digital divide. Through its national initiative, AT&T is investing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030. Since 2021, the company has distributed more than 23,000 computers to students and families across Texas.

AT&T is proud to join the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to provide refurbished laptops to community members in the RGV,” said Mario Barragan, Director of External Affairs, ATT Texas. “These computers will expand access to education, employment and connection. Together with Compudopt, we’re helping bridge the digital divide and supporting opportunities for every member of our community.”

The Computer Giveaway event represents a collaborative effort to advance digital equity across the Rio Grande Valley. By bringing together Compudopt, AT&T, the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and local nonprofit organizations, this initiative not only provides essential technology but also strengthens community connections, expands educational and economic opportunities, and ensures families have the resources needed to succeed in today’s digital landscape.
