PSJA Thomas Jefferson T-STEM ECHS Makes District History as First High School Recognized as a 2025 Lone Star Ribbon School

PHARR – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD’s Thomas Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School has made district history by becoming the first PSJA high school to earn recognition as a 2025 Lone Star Ribbon School, announced by Governor Abbott on September 29, 2025.
The Lone Star Ribbon School designation, formerly part of the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, has transitioned to a state-led initiative. Despite the change, it remains one of the most prestigious recognitions in education. PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM ECHS is among this select group, highlighting its commitment to student achievement, innovative instruction, and college readiness.
“This recognition is remarkable proof of the dedication of our students, families, educators, and leaders who work together to ensure that every PSJA Titan has access to rigorous academic opportunities and the support needed to thrive.,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias. “At PSJA ISD, we believe that all students deserve the chance to graduate prepared for college, career, and life—and this honor reflects our continued commitment to that mission.”
As a T-STEM (Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) designated campus, the school provides students with rigorous coursework, hands-on learning experiences, and opportunities to earn college credit while in high school through its wall-to wall Early College model.
“We are honored to be recognized as a Lone Star Ribbon School by Governor Abbott during the award’s inaugural year,” said PSJA Thomas Jefferson T-STEM ECHS Principal Dr. Sandra Garza. “This recognition celebrates the culture of excellence we have built together at our campus with our students, staff, and community.”
Since the program’s inception in 1982, PSJA ISD has had seven other campuses receive this prestigious honor, demonstrating the district’s long-standing commitment to educational excellence:
-
1987–88: Raul Longoria Elementary
-
1998–99: Napper Elementary
-
2009: James Bowie Elementary (now McKeever Elementary)
-
2018: Cesar Chavez Elementary
-
2018: Carmen Anaya Elementary
-
2020: Kelly-Pharr Elementary
-
2021: Zeferino Farias Elementary
With this year’s recognition, PSJA Thomas Jefferson T-STEM joins these outstanding schools in representing PSJA ISD at the state level.
