The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Upper Valley area residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Upper Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s taking place at Pharr One, on Saturday October 4. Check-in is at 8 a.m., the Opening Ceremony starts at 9 a.m.

“Having watched someone I love struggle with Alzheimer’s, I know firsthand how painful and overwhelming this journey can be. But today, there is real hope. We’ve reached a crucial moment where new treatments can change the course of the disease and offer families a chance at more precious time together,” said Valdemar Perez, Walk Manager, Alzheimer’s Association. “I encourage everyone in our community to join us by starting a team. Together, we can raise awareness and funds to stand with families who are fighting this disease right now, help advance lifesaving treatments, and move closer to a future where no one has to face Alzheimer’s alone.”

On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. During the ceremony, walkers will carry flowers of various colors, each color representing their personal connection to the disease.

More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, nearly 12 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Texas, there are more than 459,300 people living with the disease and more than 1 million caregivers.
