South Padre Island Ready to “Light up the Night” for 2025 Kemp’s Krawl 5K in Support of Sea Turtle Inc.

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas, September 10, 2025 – South Padre Island, the country’s best destination to observe and learn about sea turtles, is preparing for a fun and unique way to support sea turtle conservation—the 2025 Kemp’s Krawl 5k on Saturday, September 20th at 8:00 PM. All proceeds from the event will support Sea Turtle, Inc.’s mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and protect endangered sea turtles—particularly the rare Kemp’s ridley—through conservation, research, and education.

“Part of what makes South Padre Island a special destination are the many natural and eco-tourism opportunities, and Sea Turtle Inc. is at the top of the list,” said Blake Henry, Visit South Padre Island Executive Director. “The Kemp’s Krawl 5k is a family-friendly way to have fun on South Padre Island’s beaches, get some exercise, and most importantly, support Sea Turtle Inc.’s mission to protect sea turtles and their nesting grounds.”

There are multiple ways to participate in Kemp’s Krawl, including a timed 5K race, an untimed 5K, a 1-mile Family Fun Run/Walk with turtle-themed activities, and a virtual option for participants who want to join from afar. With the race beginning at 8:00 PM, participants are encouraged to wear their best “glow gear” so that the evening truly becomes a magical feast for the senses under the nighttime stars.

The start and end points are located outside Barry’s Beach Bar at the event partner Hilton Garden Inn, 7010 Padre Boulevard. The Courtyard by Marriott at 6700 Padre Boulevard is the event’s other hotel partner.

The festivities continue after the race with a vibrant celebration featuring an awards ceremony, photo ops with Sea Turtle Inc. mascots, a pop-up gift shop, snacks, a live DJ, and finishers’ medals. Registration for Kemp’s Krawl includes free admission to Sea Turtle Inc., including the country’s largest enclosed sea turtle hospital.
