Trump’s Handpicked Supreme Court Justices Greenlight Racial Profiling

Donald Trump’s handpicked Supreme Court Justices again eroded Americans’ personal freedoms by clearing the way for bands of masked immigration agents to profile individuals based on race, language, job, or location. 

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement: 

“The Supreme Court’s decision to lift the ban on racially targeted immigration enforcement in Los Angeles is a dangerous step backward for constitutional rights and human dignity. By allowing agents to profile …
… down costs and helping working families, Donald Trump and the Republican Party are laser-focused on manufacturing chaos, scapegoating Latinos, and waging war against the rights and dignity of all Americans.”

The Supreme Court’s decision to lift protections against racially targeted immigration enforcement in Los Angeles is a direct assault on civil liberties and the dignity of working people. In a powerful dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor — joined by Justices Kagan and Jackson — warned that the ruling gives federal agents a green light to harass and detain people simply because they “look a certain way” or “speak a certain way.” By stripping away constitutional safeguards, the Court is making low-wage Latino workers “fair game to be seized at any time,” even if they are U.S. citizens.

Sotomayor called out the decision as a “grave misuse” of the Court’s emergency powers. By shifting the burden of proof onto workers to carry documentation just to exist freely in public, the Court is creating what Sotomayor called “a second-class citizenship status.” This ruling isn’t just legally indefensible — it’s part of Donald Trump’s broader agenda to turn fear and racial profiling into official policy.
