Vanessa Cárdenas: Trump Administration is “Prioritizing Detaining Firefighters Over Fighting Fires”

Washington, DC — Yesterday, federal immigration enforcement agents detained members of work crews fighting the largest active wildfire in the state of Washington. As the Seattle Times noted (in an understated way), “It is unusual for federal border agents to make arrests during the fighting of an active fire.”

Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice, issued the following statement in response:

“Our federal government should be putting out fires, not fueling them. Perhaps nothing captures President Trump and Stephen Miller’s obsession with mass deportation and purging the nation of immigrants than the news that, quite literally, this administration is prioritizing detaining firefighters over fighting fires.

What a sad, screwed up reflection of this unhinged administration and the harm they are inflicting on America.”
