DHR Health to offer forensic exam services in Cameron County

WHAT:

DHR Health is announcing the launch of medical forensic exam services at DHR Health Brownsville Hospital. These exams will be performed by highly trained forensic nurses who specialize in trauma-informed medical care for individuals of all ages who have experienced abuse or assault. A medical forensic exam is a comprehensive evaluation designed to both treat patients and collect critical evidence in a compassionate, patient-centered manner.

ADDITIONAL:

The Safe HAVEN (Helping All Violent Encounters Now) Forensic Exam Center at DHR Health Brownsville will provide 24/7 access to specialized care for victims of abuse and assault in Cameron County.

This program, already established at DHR Health in Hidalgo County, is the only forensic exam center in both Hidalgo and Cameron counties. Safe HAVEN works in close collaboration with local District Attorneys’ Offices and law enforcement agencies to ensure victims receive timely, coordinated support.

At the center, each patient is cared for privately by a dedicated forensic nurse in a safe, compassionate environment. Exams are conducted at the patient’s own pace, ensuring dignity, respect, and comprehensive medical and forensic care for victims of all ages and genders.
