City of McAllen Advises Residents on Main & Jay Drainage Improvements

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS:

As the City of McAllen continues improving drainage throughout the city, the Main & Jay Drainage project will enhance our local storm infrastructure and improve overall water management in the area.

What to Expect:

  • Road Closure: Jay Avenue from 10th Street to Main Street will be closed to through traffic on August 232025 (See map)
  • Construction Activity: Installation of new storm sewer infrastructure (i.e. storm pipes, manholes, & curb inlets). Construction equipment will be present.
  • Public Utilities: Expect service interruptions (i.e. water & sewer, garbage & brush)
  • Working Hours: Work will generally take place Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Some weekend work may be necessary.

  • Traffic Impact: Please plan for potential delays. Local access to homes and businesses will be maintained whenever possible; periodic lane closures, detours, and construction equipment in the area as construction progresses.
  • Noise and Dust: There will be increased noise and dust during construction. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
