Attorney Omar Ochoa Officially Files to Run for Edinburg Mayor

Edinburg, Texas – Edinburg resident and respected attorney Omar Ochoa officially filed to run for Mayor of his hometown on Monday, July 21, 2025, the first day to file for a place on the November ballot. With his wife, attorney Leah Wise, and father, former Edinburg Mayor Joe Ochoa, by his side, Ochoa submitted his application at City Hall, signaling a commitment to usher in an era of forward-thinking leadership for the city.

Vowing to be a leader Edinburg families can trust, Ochoa aims to continue the city’s positive momentum and steer it clear of past controversies. “Edinburg needs a leader who will keep our city moving in the right direction – forward,” Ochoa declared. “Our families deserve a leader they can trust to make honest, informed decisions, protect their tax dollars, and continue to elevate Edinburg’s reputation. I am ready to be that leader and get the job done on Day One.”

Ochoa’s campaign is built on a foundation of extensive experience and a deep-rooted commitment to public service. Ochoa was Edinburg’s City Attorney for nearly six years. As a trusted lawyer with a strong background in municipal law and a former Certified Public Accountant, Ochoa possesses a unique and vital skill set to navigate the complexities of city government. As the former city attorney, he was the trusted advisor on all legal matters, from contracts to major policy decisions, giving him an unparalleled understanding of Edinburg’s operations.

“My experience as a CPA and a municipal attorney means I understand that when it comes to your tax dollars, there is no room for mistakes or missteps,” Ochoa stated.

He continued, “Sound financial management is critical. We must make informed decisions that won’t place an undue burden on taxpayers now or in the future, ensuring we can responsibly invest in the infrastructure and quality of life our families deserve.”

Inspired by his family’s legacy of service to the Edinburg community, Ochoa is stepping up to answer a call from community members to fill the leadership void. His father, Joe Ochoa, served as Edinburg’s mayor for thirteen years.

“A commitment to public service was instilled in me from a young age,” commented Ochoa. “I feel a deep calling to serve the families of Edinburg in this capacity and to put our community first, above everything else.”

Early voting in the Edinburg Municipal Elections begins on Monday, October 20, 2025, and runs through Friday, October 31, 2025. Election Day is Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
