Mission CISD Wins Big with The Texas Way District of Distinction Honor

MISSION, TEXAS– Mission CISD is bringing home a win, off the field! Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) has been honored as a Texas Way District of Distinction for the 2024-2025 school year during the State Athletic Directors Conference. This recognition, awarded in partnership with the Texas High School Coaches Association, Texas High School Athletic Directors Association, the University Interscholastic League (UIL), and powered by Mammoth, highlights Mission CISD’s exceptional commitment to sportsmanship and integrity in high school athletics.
Mission CISD is one of only 19 school districts statewide to receive this prestigious distinction, celebrating its efforts in upholding the values promoted by The Texas Way. According to The Texas Way, this collaborative campaign was launched to improve sportsmanship, reduce ejections, and strengthen relationships within the athletic community.
“Thanks to districts like Mission CISD, we had an incredible first year!” said Stephen Mackey, founder of The Texas Way. “This initiative was powerfully effective: there were double-digit ejection reductions in almost every sport and fewer fan and coach ejections across the board. We are grateful to partner alongside Mission CISD and see these impacts firsthand.”
The Texas Way is guided by three foundational pillars:
-
Respect for Others: A commitment to show respect to all participants because of who we are, not because of what they do.
-
Control of Self: A pledge to maintain composure and control thoughts, words, and actions during competition and adversity.
-
Spirit of Competition: A drive to give our best effort to win with integrity and honor.
The three pillars of The Texas Way, Respect for Others, Control of Self, and Spirit of Competition – are reflected in the everyday practices of Mission CISD’s athletic programs. Coaches lead by example, student-athletes compete with discipline and honor, and the entire community rallies around a shared commitment to character and sportsmanship.
“Being recognized as a Texas Way District of Distinction is an incredible honor,” said Thomas Lee, Director of Athletics at Mission CISD. “It’s a reflection of the dedication and values embraced by our coaches, student-athletes, administration, and families. At Mission CISD, we are committed to developing champions – not just in sports, but in life, who lead with pride, integrity, and respect.”
Mission CISD’s recognition reflects the district’s ongoing investment in fostering a culture of character and leadership both on and off the field, proving that how the game is played matters just as much as the final score.
