Mission CISD Bus Drivers Navigate to Victory at TAPT Roadeo

Mission, Texas— Two Mission Consolidated Independent School District (Mission CISD) bus drivers earned second-place finishes at the Texas Association for Pupil Transportation (TAPT) School Bus Driver Safety Competition, also known as the “Roadeo.”
The TAPT Roadeo is an annual event that brings together school bus drivers from across the state to participate in a two-part competition. Drivers complete a written exam that covers transportation laws, safety procedures, and regulations, followed by an obstacle course designed to test their precision, driving skills, and real-world safety maneuvers.
Mission CISD results:
· Robert Vela – 2nd Place, Conventional Bus Division
· Rodolfo “Rudy” Montes Salinas – 2nd Place, Transit Bus Division
“These awards are a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and skill our drivers bring to their jobs every single day,” said Ana Uresti Muñoz, Mission CISD Transportation Director. “Our team plays a critical role in the safety and success of our students, and we’re extremely proud to see Mr. Vela and Mr. Montes Salinas represent Mission CISD with such professionalism and pride.”
Both drivers competed among top professionals from across Texas, demonstrating their knowledge, focus, and safe driving practices under pressure. Their performance reflects the commitment Mission CISD places on student transportation safety and ongoing staff training.
Superintendent Dr. Cris Valdez also shared her appreciation: “Our bus drivers transport our precious children to and from school each day, and they do so with care, responsibility, and dedication. We are proud of Mr. Vela and Mr. Montes Salinas for their accomplishments and for being strong examples of the high standards we maintain across the district.”
