Three Key Questions for President Trump & President Bukele

Washington, DC — This morning, President Trump will host El Salvador President Nayib Bukele at the White House. The visit underscores the close ties between the two presidencies, including as partners on the Trump administration’s mass deportation efforts and attempts to subvert due process.
For the White House press corps and others monitoring the visit and larger implications, below are three key questions we hope to hear and have answered:
- For President Trump: The Supreme Court of the United States mandated the return of Kilmar Garcia of Maryland whom your DOJ said was wrongly deported. Is The Art of the Deal missing in action as you negotiate the return of this legal resident with President Bukele today at the White House?
- For President Bukele: Will you return Kilmar García to the U.S. if President Trump requests it?
- For both Presidents Trump and Bukele: Are you working on a plan to send U.S. citizens to prison in El Salvador, per a newly reported Rolling Stone article? (The article, “Team Trump Is Gaming Out How To Ship U.S. Citizens To El Salvador,” notes, “Trump officials are talking internally about denaturalizing American citizens — and potentially sending some to El Salvador.”)
