PSJA Memorial Early College High School Student Council Earns National Recognition

ALAMO – Demonstrating outstanding leadership, service, and commitment to both school and community, the PSJA Memorial Early College High School (ECHS) Student Council (STUCO) has been named a 2025 National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC), a program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
This marks the first time PSJA Memorial ECHS earns this prestigious national distinction, celebrating the exceptional work of over 50 dedicated student leaders under the direction of Student Council President Jose Ochoa Escobedo and STUCO Sponsor Jorge Lozano. The group not only leads meaningful campus and community initiatives but also currently serves as the Vice President School for the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) District 16 and is set to serve as the President School for the South Texas Region in the coming year.
To earn the National Gold Council of Excellence distinction, student councils must meet rigorous criteria including holding regular meetings, maintaining a written constitution, demonstrating inclusive elections, and actively engaging in leadership development and service projects that impact their campus and surrounding community.
“We are beyond happy that our student council is being recognized at this level,” Student Council President Jose Ochoa Escobedo said. “This recognition shows how much work and effort we commit to our school and STUCO.”
This national honor reaffirms PSJA ISD’s commitment to growing student leaders and providing opportunities for students to grow as civic-minded, compassionate leaders ready to make a difference.
