Vanessa Cárdenas Reacts to “Unconscionable” News of Trump Revocation of TPS Protections for Haitians

Washington, DC — News reports highlight that the Trump Administration has revoked TPS for Haitians, with protections against deportation now set to expire in Summer 2025. The following is a statement from Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice, reacting to the news:
“Revoking TPS protections for Haitians legally in the U.S. is an ugly and visceral reminder that the Trump administration is trying to make as many individuals as possible deportable. As Haiti continues to be roiled by violence and disorder, it’s in the United States’ interest to extend vital protections like TPS rather than to strip them. Unfortunately, deporting Haitians, who have been here with lawful and legal status, back to a nation still in the throes of crisis will only fuel more chaos in U.S. communities and in Haiti alike.
It’s also the cruel policy complement to the way the Trump and Vance political campaign knowingly perpetuated dehumanizing and racist lies about Haitians in Springfield, Ohio. We stand with our friends in the Haitian American community and others in denouncing this unconscionable news.”
