McAllen, TX – The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) invites the community to celebrate the Year of the Snake at its 13th Annual Lunar New Year Festival on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This annual event will showcase a vibrant array of traditional Chinese, Korean, and Taiwanese cultural experiences, including games, crafts, calligraphy, performances, food vendors, and much more.
Attendees can avoid long lines by purchasing advanced tickets online now. This special cultural celebration is supported by H-E-B Helping Here, with special thanks to our community and university partners.
Guests will have the opportunity to participate in fan painting, a special hands-on activity where they can design their own festive keepsake. Fan painting will take place in the Industrial Lab from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with supplies available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that a separate fee applies for fan painting and does not include general admission.
A variety of local vendors will also be featured at the festival, offering handmade crafts, clothing, art, jewelry, baked goods, and more—all inspired by Asian culture and traditions. Vendors include B’s in a Pod, Gelato Station, Han’s Katsuya, M.A.S. Designs, Mod Dang Thai, Moboba, Ode2u.Cafe, Pink Daisies Jewelry, RGVKPOPLIFE, Simplemente Velitas, Simply Sweet By Janelle, Snowbite, The Closet Worm, and ULIKE TEA.
The festival will feature a dynamic schedule of performances and cultural activities throughout the day. Highlights include a Samulnori performance by UTRGV at 11:00 AM, a Torres Taekwondo Academy demonstration at 12:00 PM, a Korean Traditional Mask Talchum Dance by Chamsarang Church & Eagle Korean School at 1:00 PM, a cultural dance by the Filipino Student Association at 2:30 PM, and a K-Pop dance performance by Nova RGV K-Pop Dance Team at 3:30 PM. Visitors can also enjoy tea tasting, calligraphy demonstrations, animation film music performances, and Korean poem recitations throughout the event.
IMAS will host engaging hands-on activities, including Postcard Printmaking in the Art Studio, Chinese Zodiac Headbands in MPU BioZone, Year of the Snake Puppets in the Fine Art Galleries, and Bingo with UTRGV K.I.S.S. With an array of performances, art activities, and cultural showcases, the IMAS Lunar New Year Festival is a must-attend event for families and individuals of all ages.
