In honor of National Burn Awareness Week, February 2 – 8, 2025, DHR Health’s Level 1 Trauma Center Injury Prevention Program, in collaboration with the McAllen Fire Department, will host a free community event that will provide valuable safety tips and resources aimed at helping families prevent burns in the home and in the community.
This family-friendly event is open to everyone, providing a great opportunity to come together and gain valuable knowledge about burn awareness and prevention.

The event will feature expert guidance on burn injury prevention, with special appearances by McAllen Fire Department’s mascot Sparky the Fire Dog and a visit from DHR Health’s mascot, Dr. Ted E. Bear, who will also offer safety tips. Community members of all ages are invited to attend, learn essential fire safety measures, and engage with fire safety professionals. Burn injuries are preventable, and this event seeks to raise awareness about burn safety and provide practical tips for reducing the risk of fires and burns in the home and workplace.
