UTRGV Soccer Seventh on CSC Academic All-District Teams

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics learned on Tuesday that the men’s and women’s soccer programs combined to have seven representatives on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the 2024 men’s and women’s soccer CSC Academic All-District teams.

Juniors Kgodiso Sukati and Joaquin Suarez and sophomore Keaviano Francis represented the men’s team while senior Abbie Bailey, redshirt junior Savannah Frisby, and sophomores Linnea Eld and Rosie Train represented the women’s team.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.50 and must have competed in 90 percent of the institutions matches or must start in at least 66 percent of the contests.

Sukati played and started in all 16 matches this season and tied for the team lead in points (10) and goals (4) while being fifth on the team with two assists. Francis played in all 16 matches while making 12 starts while also tying for the team lead in points (10) and goals (4) while also leading the team in shots (30) and shots on goal (16) en route to Southland All-Conference Second Team honors. Suarez anchored the Vaqueros defense as he played in 14 matches while making 12 starts.

Bailey played and started in all 19 matches this season while scoring three goals. Frisby also played and started in all 19 matches as she led the Vaqueros in points (15) and goals (7) while finishing second on the team in shots (35).  Eld also played and started in 19 matches while finishing second on the team in points (9), goals (4), and led the team in shots (43). Train also played and started in all 19 matches while helping anchor the Vaqueros defense alongside Bailey while leading the team with six assists.
