DEA National Takeback Day
The Brownsville Police Department is encouraging community members to take part in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 26, 2024. The event will take place at the Walgreens on Central Boulevard, where residents can safely dispose of their unused or expired medications from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, an initiative by the DEA, aims to combat the growing problem of prescription drug abuse. Held twice a year, it offers a safe and anonymous way for people to dispose of potentially dangerous medications at designated drop-off locations. By doing so, the event helps prevent drug misuse, addiction, and overdoses by keeping substances out of homes and away from those who might misuse them.
Since its launch in 2010, Take Back Day has collected millions of pounds of medications nationwide, ensuring that they are disposed of in an environmentally safe manner. The initiative not only addresses the opioid crisis but also raises awareness about the risks of prescription drug misuse, encouraging conversations on substance abuse prevention and treatment options.
The Brownsville Police Department stresses that participation in the event can play a significant role in promoting community health and safety, helping to reduce the risk of accidental overdoses and drug-related harm.
