UTRGV Spirit Program hosts first summer camp

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS– UTRGV Spirit Program holds a range of clinics and workshops, and this summer is expanding to host its first comprehensive summer program for children.

UTRGV Spirit Program’s Kids Spirit Camp is a three-day event tailored to provide a fun, educational and immersive experience that covers the different aspects of spirit, cheerleading and dance.

The camp is open to children age 6 to 11, and will run from Aug. 5 – 7 at the University Ballroom on the UTRGV Edinburg Campus. The camp registration fee is $150.

Sel Gomez, head coach of the UTRGV Spirit Program, said hosting the camp is an opportunity to share the program’s expertise and passion for cheerleading, dance and spirit with young aspiring athletes.

“It allows us to engage with the community, inspire the next generation and showcase what the UTRGV Spirit Program is all about. It also helps us build relationships and create a supportive environment for learning and growth,” she said. “We are most looking forward to seeing the excitement and enthusiasm on the campers’ faces as they learn and grow throughout the camp.”

Gomez said she, along with Spirit Program members and staff, are hoping campers take away a sense of accomplishment, confidence, new skills and “a deeper love for cheerleading and dance.”

The camp is taking registrations; only 75 spots are available.
