UTRGV recognized for supporting transfer students

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS– UTRGV has been recognized among 228 national institutions on the Transfer Honor Roll by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) for 2024.
The distinction recognizes the dynamic pathways that named universities have created to support transfer students.
According to PTK.org, the Transfer Honor Roll is determined by 40 key metrics related to the support and success of transfer students, including college cost and financial aid, campus life for transfer, admission practices and completion of bachelor’s degrees.
Dara Newton, associate vice president for UTRGV Strategic Enrollment, said the PTK Honor Roll designation showcases UTRGV’s dedication and forward thinking in supporting transfer students from college to career.
“This truly showcases our faculty and staff’s support of success, both inside and outside the classroom,” Newton said.
The Transfer Honor Roll selections are based on analysis from the National Student Clearinghouse, and on data submitted through each four-year institution’s profile on PTK Connect, Phi Theta Kappa’s online tool designed to help students find their best-fit colleges and career pathways.
Dr. Magdalena Hinojosa, senior vice president for Strategic Enrollment and Student Affairs, said she is proud of the team and honored to have been named to the Transfer Honor Roll for their efforts.
“Recognitions like this one are a testament to the hard work of university departments that work closely with transfer students,” she said.
Colleges completing the PTK Connect profile are given a Transfer Friendliness Rating. The Honor Roll is chosen from among the top 25% highest-rated colleges.
UTRGV was named alongside The University of Texas at Arlington, the only two UT System schools recognized.
“We are extremely proud of this distinction, which should be seen as a beacon to students across Texas, calling them to an institution that is dedicated to their success,” Newton said. “Transfer students immediately know that UTRGV has a commitment to helping students who start at another institution complete their bachelor’s degree.
“Whether transfer students are following UTRGV transfer guides, review the college credit tables, or participate in one of our dedicated pathways like STC2UTRGV, students can rest assured that our goal is to support timely degree completion,” she said.
