TEDx McAllen is back at STC
South Texas College is honored to be partnered with TEDx McAllen. After a five-year hiatus, TEDx McAllen announced at a recent press conference that its popular speaker series will return October 29, 2024 to STC Pecan campus.
TEDx McAllen is the local program of TED, a world-wide, influential, expert speaker series program, that is self-organized and brings people together to share a TED-like experience in the local community.
“This is an exciting announcement because it’s bringing together a group of innovators, leaders and creators,” said STC President Ricardo J. Solis, Ph.D. “TEDx is an influential instrument that brings together our community, and as educational providers of the Valley, STC is the perfect place to host this prestigious event. To bring TEDx and STC together, is a powerful movement.”
This year’s TEDx McAllen theme is “Unbound,” to capture the essence of community leaders and influencers that know no bounds, fight for what they believe in and help make the region a better place.
“We’re excited to be back. From the pandemic to other regional and global challenges, we have overcome a lot since our last event in 2019 and we’re ready to tell the stories of the RGV, showcase where we come from and let it be known across the globe all the greatness our region offers,” said TEDx McAllen organizer Marcos Silva.
He said that this year’s event will celebrate the people in the RGV community who have overcome adversity and have not been bound by their challenges.
“This year’s TEDx McAllen will highlight how our residents are transforming our community,” said Silva. “Being from the Valley, I believe in our people, and this is our platform.”
TEDx McAllen is now accepting nominations for the upcoming speakers series. Silva said he encourages the community to share their stories.
“We are looking for those outside-of-the-box thinkers who want to share their stories,” he said. “We know those individuals are out there and on October 29 we want them to share the work, actions and ideas that are helping our Valley grow.”
All nominations will go to the TEDx McAllen selection committee. After a thorough screening process, 12-14 speakers will be selected.
